Consulting: understand it, then change it
Timeboxed reviews that combine worker consultation, risk assessment and co-designed controls, ending in a prioritised roadmap people can own.
Why it matters
Consulting: understand it, then change it
When an organisation senses a problem but cannot see where it comes from, it needs a structured way to look. Consulting provides a defined review with clear scope, timeline and outputs.
Surveys are only one source of evidence. They are most useful when combined with documents, data already held and conversations with those who do the work. We do not rank staff by health and we do not collect sensitive individual data.
Findings matter only if they change work. We co-design controls with the people affected, and we plan how capability will transfer to your team so that implementation does not depend on us.
Scope
What a review includes
- Current-state review
- Look at existing policy, data, practice and structures to establish a starting point.
- Worker consultation
- Structured conversations and group sessions with workers and representatives, designed for access and safety.
- Hazard and risk assessment
- Identify hazards in work design, rate risks and note existing controls and gaps.
- Co-designed work controls
- Develop options with managers and workers, favouring changes to work over individual-level responses.
- Prioritised roadmap
- Sequence actions with owners, metrics, resources and a review point.
- Capability transfer
- Coach managers and internal teams so they can run the next review, and provide implementation support where agreed.
Outcomes
Deliverables

- A hazard and risk register based on several evidence sources.
- A consultation summary that protects individuals.
- Options for controls with trade-offs described.
- A roadmap with owners, measures and review dates.
- A handover pack so your team can maintain momentum.
Process
How a timeboxed review runs
Scope
Agree boundaries, teams, data and consultation approach.
Gather evidence
Collect documents, data and views from workers and managers.
Assess and co-design
Analyse hazards, test options with those affected and refine.
Roadmap and handover
Deliver prioritised actions and support early implementation.
Checklist
Readiness check
- Is there a decision-maker who will act on the findings?
- Which teams and sites are in scope?
- What data do we already hold that we can use?
- How will workers be told what the review is and is not?
- Who will own each action when the review closes?
- How will we judge whether the changes worked?
FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Do you run a survey?
We can include one if it adds value, but it is one source among several. We avoid relying on a single score.
Can you also audit the result?
We recommend a separate independent audit where independence matters, so the people who designed the controls are not the ones testing them.
How long does a review take?
It depends on scope and size, which we agree up front. The aim is a defined timebox, not an open-ended engagement.
