Speaking Up: Overcoming the Bystander and Hierarchy Effect
A 10-minute foundation micro-course for frontline staff and individual contributors. It explains why people stay silent at work and offers low-risk conversational frameworks for questioning assumptions, voicing doubts and flagging process risks upward. It also separates general good practice from legal duties that need local verification.
This micro-course has two short text lessons and a 10-question quiz (passmark 80%). Lesson 1 covers the psychology of silence, including the bystander effect and the hierarchy effect. Lesson 2 gives practical, low-risk phrases and a simple structure for raising doubts and process risks with colleagues and managers. It also explains why legal references must be checked locally. The content is country-neutral and describes suggested practice, not statutory requirements. It is not accredited training and does not certify compliance. Speaking up is one part of a healthy workplace and does not replace work-design controls or employee consultation.
