Active Bystander Intervention: Halting Disrespect at Work
A 15-minute foundation micro-course for all staff on the 5Ds of bystander intervention (Direct, Distract, Delegate, Delay, Document) and on safe scripts for responding to microaggressions, exclusion and bullying. It is country-neutral and separates general good practice from duties that need local legal verification.
This gives all staff a practical, non-legal introduction to stepping in safely when they see disrespect at work. Learners meet the 5Ds, practise choosing an option that fits the situation and their own safety, and use sample wording for three common situations: microaggressions, exclusion and bullying. The course explains that the recommendations are optional good practice, not statutory requirements, and that any legal duties differ by jurisdiction and must be verified locally. Training supports, but does not replace, work-design controls, reporting procedures and employee consultation. The module has 2 text lessons and a 10-question quiz with an 80% pass mark. This draft is not accredited and must be reviewed by a human before use.
